Located in the mountains of Kainan, yuyu is a remote cafe run by ceramic artist Miho Hasegawa. The cafe adjoins her pottery studio and offers great views of the natural surroundings. Lunch options use homegrown veggies and are served in the owner's tableware creations. The cafe is strictly reservation only, so make sure to call in advance.

Husband and wife pottery duo Mr. and Mrs. Izawa own this cosy little cafe, where you can enjoy refreshments served on a unique array of handmade vessels. You can also take a look at their pottery works on display in the adjoining gallery. It's worth noting that they even built the cafe by themselves.

At this countryside cafe in Katsuragi, the pizzas are baked in a wood-fired oven and made using fresh mountain water and homegrown vegetables. Although it’s worth a visit for the food alone, the building, an old Japanese-style thatched cottage, is cosy and very photogenic.
